Rep Smith joins Transportation Secretary Chao in challenging the transportation industry to commit to “100 pledges in 100 days” to combat human trafficking and protect women and children from this barbaric human rights abuse. The pledge is part of the DOT’s new initiative to combat human trafficking through employee education, public awareness, and grant funding to anti-trafficking projects.

Rep Smith, author of five laws combatting human trafficking including the landmark Trafficking Victims Protection Act, spoke at the launch and welcomed the Secretary’s efforts. “Human trafficking is a barbaric human rights abuse that thrives on greed, secrecy, a perverted sense of entitlement to exploit the vulnerable and an unimaginable disregard for the victims,” Rep. Smith said.
