Colts Neck, N.J. – Rep. Chris Smith (R-NJ) was decisively re-elected by voters in New Jersey’s Fourth Congressional District yesterday, Tuesday, November 6th.
“As your congressman, I have poured myself into the job, working for NJ’s top priorities. I am deeply grateful for the opportunity to serve New Jersey’s Fourth Congressional District and I would like to thank all of our dedicated volunteers and elected officials for all their hard work this election season,” said Smith.
“America today faces an unprecedented number of difficult challenges that must be met and I am eager to work on solutions including: the need to grow the economy, sustain a strong military, increase resources to mitigate human trafficking and violence against women, ensure affordable and accessible high quality health care, preserve Social Security and Medicare, protect our environment including our beautiful Jersey Shore, and end incivility and barbaric violence as we tragically witnessed again in Pittsburgh.
“I’m looking forward to continuing to work for my constituents during the 116th Congress. Our prayer for our country must be for wisdom, strength and courage for all – including and especially all elected officials at all levels to always seek justice, put others ahead of self and serve the people with honesty, tenacity and humility,” said Smith.
With some vote by mail ballots still uncounted, Smith garnered 56% of the vote in his congressional district in a state that saw a loss of other Republican congressional seats in the blue wave.
Smith’s opponent received 42.6% of the vote. With a total of 156,457 votes thus far, Smith received the highest raw vote total of any congressional candidate, Democrat or Republican, in the entire state.
