Endorsement Underscores Smith’s Record of “Reaching Across the Aisle and Providing Leadership”
Colts Neck, NJ — The Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence has endorsed Chris Smith for re-election in the Fourth Congressional District of New Jersey.
“We know that Rep. Smith is both proven and prepared to meet the challenge, and continue to be a [gun violence prevention] champion in Congress,” the Brady campaign said in an e-mail release.
They continued: “…the people of New Jersey’s 4th congressional district will be able to count on his vocal, passionate leadership in solving the gun violence epidemic gripping our country particularly reaching across the aisle and providing leadership.”
Smith, who believes in Second Amendment rights with reasonable and sensible restrictions, was deeply grateful for Brady’s support and endorsement. “The Brady Campaign advocates common-sense policies to prevent gun violence, and I’m proud to have their endorsement. I believe these reforms are crucial to ensuring the safety of our schools, our workplaces and our society from the horrors of gun violence—while respecting and maintaining the freedoms enshrined in the Constitution.”
Endorsing Smith, the Brady Campaign said statement also noted in their endorsement of Smith that they, “are selective in the candidates who receive our endorsement. We know that it will take fortitude, a strong moral compass, and sincere compassion for the millions of people affected by gun violence in our nation.”
Smith has also been endorsed by former Congresswoman Gabby Giffords’ organization “Giffords Courage to Fight to End Gun Violence.” Giffords—herself a victim of gun violence—said in her endorsement that “Smith will never stop working to make New Jersey communities safer.”
