September 28, 2018 – The New Jersey Firefighters Mutual Benevolent Association (NJFMBA) has endorsed Rep. Chris Smith for re-election to the U.S. House of Representatives. NJFMBA represents over 5,000 firefighters, EMTs and dispatchers across New Jersey.
“My late father-in-law, Don Hahn, was a lifelong volunteer fireman in Morgan and served as fire chief in Sayreville. I have always respected his and all firefighters’ bravery, commitment and life-saving work and the sacrifice of their families. I am deeply honored to receive the endorsement of the NJFMBA which represents the everyday heroes of our communities. Our local firefighters, EMTs and dispatchers work day in and day out to keep our citizens and families safe,” he said.
In the letter endorsing Rep. Smith, NJFMBA President Eddie Donnelly said: “Your endorsement was unanimous, hard earned, carefully considered and well deserved.”

Rep. Smith has a strong track record of supporting the first responders in Congress and ensuring they have the resources needed to protect our communities. In 2014, Rep. Smith received the Honorary Trenton Firefighters Award for helping to save firefighters’ jobs. Additionally, Rep. Smith received the Appreciation Award and Honorary Firefighter’s Helmet in 2011 for helping to save more than 60 firefighters from facing pending layoffs. In 2000, he helped create the Assistance to Firefighter Grant, which funds essential equipment and resources that local fire department use to protect communities throughout the country.
Rep. Smith is a long-time member of the Congressional Fire Services Caucus.
