July 9, 2018 – The Humane Society Legislative Fund endorsed Rep. Chris Smith for re-election in November.
“Chris Smith is an outstanding representative of New Jersey’s humane values,” said Sara Amundson, president of the Humane Society Legislative Fund. “We urge voters in the 4th Congressional District to return a truly compassionate leader to the U.S. Congress.”
“Rep. Smith has led efforts to ensure adequate funding for the enforcement of the Animal Welfare Act and Horse Protection Act to crack down on puppy mills, horse soring, roadside zoos and other abuses of animals,” the Humane Society Legislative Fund said in a statement.
In April, Rep. Smith was recognized as a Humane Society’s 2017 Legislator of the Year for his leadership in “mobilizing his [Republican] colleagues to seek needed funds and provisions to enforce key animal welfare laws.”
